First Teaching Practice (Second Period)

Describe

First practice if the second period. Participative class with no problems, bur some students have a hard time understanding the directions. Maybe that can be related to the fact that there are schools that do not take english subject as a serious way of learning and don't do much for students to learn about it...

The flow of the class was good, students participated and had a good time, the objective of the class was reached easily since students put effort in the practices.

Students needed an easy way of receiving the directions because they did not understand much, their english level lacks of vocabulary and they have difficulty pronunciating many words.

In the future, I must look for an easier way of giving instrucions so stundents can understand easier and faster. Using simple and less words might work.

  1. Hi Edward, maybe what you can do to avoid students get confused in the directions is to use body language. That helps a lot with beginners. Moreover, you should model (or have someone else) what they are going to do. Take advantage of the students that already know English. Make them participate in your class because when they get bored, they make other students feel bored. That happens! :)

    1. Thanks for your comment Denis. in fact, I used body language in every class I teach; nevertheless, they still have problems understanding. I attribute those problems to the base of english that they had at school

  2. I agree with Denis. I think it is pretty important to use body language, especially with those students who are beginners. Then, students related the words according to what they see. Also, it is important to have students to participate in the class because in that way you are going to help them to improve in the four macro--skills

    1. Exactly, but what I think I can do is to look for better or more understandable words for them :)

  3. Hi Edd, I think sometimes can be difficult to work with Basic English students because not all of them understand what the teacher is explaining. That's why it is really important the use of body language or as the last resource to explain them some things in Spanish. They are beginners so, I think you can use flashcards in order to introduce new vocabulary and you can tell them that repeat those words. Try to look for speaking activities like a conversation or a role play and do not forget to encourage them to learn English. :)
